Monetize Your Website as an Amazon Affiliate
If you’re reading this, or have read some previous posts, you probably have heard about how you can make money with the Amazon Affiliate Program. Perhaps you have already created your own website and hosted it in hopes of making some income with the Amazon Affiliate Program. If you're don't know exactly how to do that, you aren’t alone.

Keep in mind that the terms Amazon Affiliate and Amazon Associate refer to the same program. Here are some steps to get you started, primarily aimed at using a website. 1. Learn basic HTML – If you don’t know HTML already, now is a good time to learn basic HTML. It will help to keep your costs down and give you more flexibility. Many sites are WYSIWYG but you will find many lack the flexibility you need when it comes to creating hyperlinks, formatting text, and carrying out other tasks that can help you to make money with Amazon. There are HTML tutorials online which can help you learn the basics. In case you don't have the time to research online HTML, you might be interested in downloading a FREE copy of my Web Page Design Guide. The Guide is a 75-page "How-To" Step-by-Step Guide for Newbies, showing the basics for HTML web page design, including screen shots. You can Download the Guide Here. It will speed up your learning curve on basic HTML, which will benefit you in your business. 2. Decide what your niche or topic will be (this is very important and I will be repeating it often in our posts on this subject) – If you are planning to make recommendations, do product reviews, or just talk about a certain product in an effort to sell that product, make sure you choose a narrow niche that is distinct and will be easy to target. For example, dog training, card making, body building, or primarily something that you may be passionate about. 3. Pick the domain name – make sure that you give this the thought it deserves. Choose a name that is keyword rich to help you with SEO, a name that is relevant, and matches your niche. Of course, it will have to be available so have a few options that you’ll be happy with. For example, dogtraining.com, easycardmaking.com or bodybuildingabs.com. You can also be creative in case the domain you want isn’t available by using hyphens, such as dog-training.com or choose a different domain extension. There are many different types of domain extensions – for example .net, .ca, .org, .edu, .email, .club, .info, .biz, etc. 4. Register the domain name – Most hosting sites will register your domain free if you use their hosting service. You can also register a domain name separately through many different sites, but most of these will charge a yearly fee. Once you register your domain name, it will be yours to use. Registering a domain for a year ranges from $10 to $20 on average, but when registered along with web hosting, it is usually free. 5. Setup web hosting – This is where you need to be careful. There is really expensive web hosting and generally there is no reason to pay high rates. Even if they offer all kinds of tools most people don’t use the majority of these features and you’ll be paying for them. You should be able to find hosting for as little as $5 a month, and for as little as $10 you can find hosting for unlimited sites. Just Google "web hosting" to find the cost and comparison of features provided by various web hosting providers. It is important to have selected your niche, domain, web hosting and created your basic website or blog before you register with Amazon as an Affiliate. Once you sign up as an Affiliate, they will review your website before they will approve you as an Affiliate. This should give you some ideas of how to start towards becoming a Amazon Affiliate.

Below is a live Ad for a digital camera which can give you an idea of how you can insert Amazon products into your web page. You select the Amazon product on the Amazon Associate product page where they generate the HTML code for the Ad. You just copy and paste the code into your web page. Test it out by clicking the Buy Now button.

Our next post will be "How To Start Making Money With Amazon on a Blog" for using your blog to make money with Amazon.
